Earthquake rattles northern Vancouver Island, no injuries reported

PORT HARDY, B.C. – Earthquakes Canada says a “moderate” quake has hit just west of Vancouver Island.

The agency says the 5.7 magnitude quake hit at about 6:20 a.m. local time.

It says the quake was lightly felt across northern Vancouver Island inPort Alice, Port McNeill, Tahsis, Sointula and Alert Bay.

There are no reports of any damage or injuries.

No tsunami is expected.
