Smoky skies advisory lifted in the Okanagan; continued for Kamloops
The smoky skies advisory in place more than a week has finally been cancelled for the Okanagan, Shuswap and Nicola regions.
Environment Canada reissued the advisory Aug. 14 after smoke from several B.C. wildfires crept back into the B.C. Interior. It included all of the South Thompson, Nicola, Shuswap and Okanagan.
Although the advisory was lifted for much of the Interior today, a big chunk including the South Thompson will continue to deal with wildfire smoke in the air. A bulletin from Environment Canada says smoke concentrations will vary widely in these areas, as winds, fire behaviour and temperatures change.
Environment Canada says some possible symptoms include shortness of breath, throat irritation, coughing or headaches. To lower the risk of potential side-effects find a place that is cool and well ventilated. If your home isn't ventilated you should try to find somewhere to go that is, like a public library.
