Testimony from police officer delayed at inquest into Winnipeg ER death
WINNIPEG – Testimony has been delayed from a police officer who investigated whether criminal charges were warranted in the death of a man who waited for 34 hours in a Winnipeg hospital’s emergency room.
An inquest into the death of Brian Sinclair was to hear from the officer, who was expected to go over security tape of the double amputee’s wait in the ER.
But Sgt. John O’Donovan won’t be testifying until a hard drive with all documents related to the criminal investigation has been distributed to lawyers.
A new date for O’Donovan to take the stand has not been scheduled.
The inquest is instead hearing testimony from social workers and home-care workers, who had contact with Sinclair before he died almost five years ago.
Sinclair had a treatable infection caused by a blocked catheter.
