Police say man takes several people hostage at city hall in Germany, motive unclear

BERLIN – Police say a man has taken several people hostage at the city hall in the Bavarian city of Ingolstadt.

Police spokesman Guenther Beck said it wasn’t clear what weapons the man might have or what he wants. The incident started shortly before 9 a.m. (0700 GMT) Monday and Beck said police were in contact with the man by telephone.

Beck said there “several” hostages but he couldn’t be specific. There was no immediate detail on the hostage-taker.
