Gov. announces housing funding plan for Puerto Rico evacuees

HARTFORD, Conn. – Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has announced a spending plan for the purpose of ensuring housing for Puerto Rico evacuees residing in the state.

The Democratic governor announced Monday a plan to spend a $600,000 appropriation that was included in the state budget adjustment bill to ensure housing assistance for the group. The Department of Housing has determined that $250,000 of that will be used to provide 100 households with first month’s rent and a security deposit.

Disaster case managers continue to work with about 100 households to find permanent housing. Thousands of families from Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands have sought refuge in the state since Hurricane Maria hit last September.

Federal rental housing assistance for some evacuees has expired or is about to expire.
