City of Penticton urges water conservation

PENTICTON – The City of Penticton has issued a request for residents to conserve water.

The City says stage one water restrictions normally in place between May 1 and August 31 have been extended indefinitely in responses to the latest level three drought rating declared for the Okanagan by the provincial government.

“With drought conditions expected to continue, the provincial government is encouraging everyone in the region to conserve,” Public Works manager Len Robson says in a media release.

Even numbered street addresses are allowed to water on even numbered days and odd numbered addressed can water on odd numbered days under the restrictions.

Agricultural users are also being asked to cut usage by 30 per cent.

The City’s steps to reduce water consumption include adjustment of its lake water intake to conserve mountain reservoir draws, and a 30 per cent reduction in park irrigation.
