NORTH COWICHAN, B.C. – It’s been a deadly 24 hours for B.C.’s youths with a 13-year-old and an 18-year-old dead following separate roadside accidents.
Duncan RCMP say a 13-year-old girl was struck by a car early Monday morning while walking across the Trans Canada Highway with a group of youths.
The driver immediately stopped the car and came out to help the girl, who was conscious and in a lot of pain, but moments later, a second car, making a lane change in order to avoid the first car, struck both the girl and an 18-year-old male.
The 18-year-old was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, but the girl died at the scene.
Both excessive speed and alcohol have been ruled out as factors in the accident.
Late Sunday night, an 18-year-old man in Chilliwack died from his injuries after falling off the box of a moving pick up truck, prompting Mounties to recommend charges of dangerous driving against the 18-year-old driver.
