DUNCAN, B.C. – The Vancouver Island community of Duncan, B.C., is mourning the death of a 13-year-old girl who was struck by two vehicles while crossing a highway.
RCMP Cpl. Krista Hobday says the girl was with several people walking across the highway south of the downtown core at about 3 a.m. Monday. when she was struck by a vehicle.
Hobday says the driver was helping the teen when a second motorist hit the girl and an 18-year-old man.
The girl did not survive, and the man suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital.
Hobday says the area is well lit and that both drivers are traumatized by the incident, which apparently did not involve alcohol.
She says several others who were with the two pedestrians left the scene before an ambulance arrived, and police are asking anyone who saw what happened to call them.
