Law Society of B.C. seeks injunction against illegally practising lawyer
VANCOUVER – The Law Society of B.C. says a Surrey man has been giving legal advice even though he is not a practising lawyer, contravening an agreement he made in 2006 not to do so.
The society is petitioning B.C.’s Supreme Court for an injunction against Major Randhawa to stop advertising or providing legal advice.
In court documents filed last week, the society says it first investigated Randhawa in 2006 after discovering he was advertising various legal services, including divorces.
At that time, Randhawa signed an undertaking agreeing not to do so anymore.
However, the society says it was notified earlier this year that Randhawa was once again advertising legal services, and it is now seeking a formal order.
Concern about illegally practising professionals was raised this month after an unlicensed dentist was discovered running a clinic in Burnaby.
