Some lucky campers in the Thompson-Okanagan region are enjoying peaceful nature getaways this summer and the region has beautiful provincial sites, along with some great free spots to park for a few nights.

There are more than 30 provincial campgrounds in the Okanagan area and more than 25 around Kamloops, perched on lakes, rivers and waterfalls. There are also free sites to camp at and remote camping areas that don’t require a permit.

Most BC provincial park campgrounds are open between May and October and require booking months in advance, however, some sites are available on a first come, first serve basis and there are cancellations that come up.

Options at BC provincial parks include frontcountry, vehicle accessed sites that come with toilets, picnic tables and water taps and are ideal for families with RVs, backcountry sites that have few amenities and require hiking or paddling into, and walk-in sites.
