2 people injured after being stabbed at Texas Wal-Mart

PRINCETON, Texas – Officials say a Wal-Mart employee is in custody after stabbing two people in a North Texas store.

Princeton police Chief James Waters says the incident happened Wednesday afternoon. He says the two people stabbed were taken by helicopter to a hospital and are both in stable condition.

Princeton City Manager Derek Borg tells TV station KXAS an off-duty McKinney firefighter was among the victims.

Waters says the suspect fled but was apprehended nearby. He says the suspect was being treated for what are believed to be self-inflicted injuries to his hand.

The chief says they’ll be interviewing the suspect to try to determine a motive.

In a statement, Wal-Mart called the incident “deeply troubling” and added that “the associate who did this was arrested and his employment at our store was immediately terminated.”

Princeton is about 45 miles northeast of Dallas.
