Mounties rescue Lilly the pooch from perch above river in northeast B.C.

VANCOUVER – Lilly the golden Labrador retriever is back at home with her family in northeast British Columbia after a cliffhanger of a rescue by police and firefighters.

Mounties in the small community of Hudson’s Hope say Lilly put herself in the dog house this weekend by wandering over an embankment and getting stranded on a ledge about 15 metres above the Peace River.

They say officers learned about the stranded two-year-old pooch on Sunday afternoon and sped a member and two firefighters to the scene by jet boat.

But Lilly just couldn’t be coaxed from her ledge, so the rescuers fetched a rope and ladder.

Police say a member climbed up to Lilly and led her down to the river’s edge, where she was re-united with her owner from the nearby community of Chetwynd.

Despite the ordeal, police say Lilly suffered only minor abrasions and just needed a dip in the river and a drink of water to recover.
