Security guard says he raised concern with triage nurse or man’s long ER wait

WINNIPEG – A security guard working at a Winnipeg hospital says he raised concerns about how long a man had been waiting in the emergency room.

Ed Latour told an inquest into Brian Sinclair’s death that he was working the night shift when the double amputee first arrived at the Health Sciences Centre on Sept. 19, 2008.

Latour says he became concerned when Sinclair was still there the following night, in the same spot.

Latour says he talked to a triage nurse on duty and was told Sinclair had been treated, released and had returned to the emergency department.

Less than two hours later, Sinclair was discovered dead from a bladder infection caused by a blocked catheter.

Sinclair was never seen by medical staff and had probably been dead for several hours when he was found.
