The Quilpituk Creek fire is now being held, but the Bald Range fire is still out of control.

The Quilpituk Creek fire is being held at 1,275 hectares and BC Wildfire Service said crews are on the scene mopping up.

“Crews continue to mop up along Westside Road moving south, securing into natural features and eliminating pockets of unburnt fuel between the fires edge and the containment line,” BC Wildfire said in a statement.

There’s still one evacuation alert and seven evacuation orders in place for the Quilpituk Creek wildfire on Westside Road, but authorities are getting ready for re-entry and evacuees should be told when they can return home on Friday, Aug. 14.

“The Emergency Operations Centre is deploying a rapid damage assessment team to assess readiness for re-entry. Danger trees, hydro lines, and other hazards will be assessed as quickly but thoroughly as possible,” the Emergency Operations Centre said in a press release.

The weather is supposed to be hot and dry but firefighters aren’t expecting much wind. Westside Road remains closed where the fire is.

The fight against the Bald Range fire is ongoing. The blaze is at 18,450 hectares with eight evacuation alerts and 11 evacuation orders still in place. Highway 97 is still closed.

Firefighters are still working to establish control lines by removing fuel to reduce the potential spread of the fire.

“Control lines, also known as fire guards, are areas where there is a change in fuel type, such as a road, or where vegetation and other fuels are removed to help slow or stop the spread of a wildfire,” BC Wildfire Service said in a statement. “Crews are also reinforcing structure protection and mopping up hotspots in community areas that have already burned.”

The Bradley Creek wildfire is still listed as being held at 2,650 hectares with two evacuation alerts and two evacuation orders still in place.

BC Wildfire said crews are working their way inward to get the fire under control.

“Crews will progressively extend patrols and mop-up efforts farther into the interior of the fire over the coming days to identify and address any residual heat and secure the perimeter,” BC Wildfire Service said.

The Ainslie Creek and Brunswick Creek fires near Lytton, and the Pear Lake fire near Cache Creek are still encroaching on the region.

Air quality warnings in Central Okanagan and Kamloops have been downgraded to yellow, and there’s no air quality warning for the North Okanagan as of 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 13. But, the South Okanagan still has an orange air quality warning in place.
