Lane Anderson award reveals shortlist of best in Canadian science writing
TORONTO – Writing isn’t rocket science — but sometimes, writing can be on rocket science.
The Lane Anderson Award, funded by the Fitzhenry Family Foundation, announced its short list on Thursday, recognizing some of Canada’s finest science writing in 2012.
Jay Ingram’s “Fatal Flaws,” Neil Turok’s “The Universe Within” and “Superbodies,” by Greg Wells, are the three finalists in the adult category.
Helaine Becker’s “Big Green Book of the Big Blue Sea,” Peter Cooke and Laura Suzuki’s “Canada Recycles,” and Carol Pasternak’s “How to Raise Monarch Butterflies” all earned nods in the youth-geared category.
The winner in each category will be announced on Sept. 26. They will each win a $10,000 prize.
Harry Thurston’s “The Atlantic Coast: A Natural History” took home the adult award last year, while Caitlyn Vernon’s “Nowhere Else on Earth” won from the children’s finalists.
