Mexican network Televisa announces shakeup of its news shows

MEXICO CITY – Well-known Mexican journalist Denise Maerker will take over a shortened version of Televisa’s late-night news show this summer under a shakeup of the network’s news programs.

The nightly newscast’s host has been Joaquin Lopez-Doriga since 2000, but he announced last week that he will leave the show in August. Televisa said in a statement Monday that Lopez Doriga will host two shows a week with comment, analysis and reporting.

Televisa’s other well-known anchor is Carlos Loret de Mola, who will continue to host the morning news and also report from the field on larger stories.

The fate of Televisa’s early evening news program remains unclear. Current anchor Adela Micha will instead run a twice-weekly interview program.

Karla Iberia Sanchez will take over the afternoon program from longtime newsreader Lolita Ayala.
