YLW flying high on cheap airfare
KELOWNA – Airfares are down and affordability up for those travelling to and from the Kelowna Airport.
With an average round trip for $432 (tax included) YLW now ranks as the second most affordable of popular Canadian and American border airports. It's a big jump from Kelowna's eighth place ranking in 2012.
The findings are part of Cheapflights.ca 2013 Airport Affordability Index which takes a snapshot of August flight prices for 20 airports used to travel to top destinations.
Attractive prices may be part of the reason YLW was announcing its millionth passenger a month earlier than expected. Kelowna Airport officials say it's been a record breaking year, thanks to a busy summer tourist season.
But it's Bellingham International Airport that boasts the best deals.
With an average round trip for $316 Bellingham holds the top spot as the most affordable airport. Runners up include Moncton, Victoria International and Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County.
