Human remains, plane wreckage found outside Rainy Pass

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Alaska State Troopers say human remains and plane wreckage found just outside Rainy Pass are believed to be those of a 61-year-old pilot and plane missing since March.

The remains were found Tuesday along the general route pilot Timothy Twohy was believed to have taken before he went missing March 5 in his Cessna 172.

Troopers spokesman Ken Marsh says the tail number on the wrecked plane matched that of the missing plane.

Marsh says the wreckage was confirmed by troopers who flew out to the site with representatives of the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration.

He says troopers went to the site in response to a report of a crash site spotted in the area.

The remains were sent to the state medical examiner’s office.
