Vancouver shuts out Boise 5-0 in Game 3 to win Northwest League Championship

VANCOUVER – L.B. Dantzler had a two-run double in the bottom of the third inning as the Vancouver Canadians shut out the Boise Hawks 5-0 on Monday to win a third consecutive Northwest League championship.

The Canadians, the short season single-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, won the best-of-three series 2-1.

Pitcher Tom Robson of Ladner, B.C., was dominant over his 6 1/3 innings of work for Vancouver, giving up just three hits and no walks.

Dantzler — the league’s MVP — doubled to centre field off of Boise starter Mike Wagner. Dantzler’s double scored second baseman Andy Fermin and designated hitter Mitch Nay to give Vancouver an early lead.

The Canadians would tack on three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to put the game out of reach with outfielder Ian Parmley hitting a two-run single that scored catcher Michael Reeves and third baseman Justin Atkinson.

Shortstop Dawel Lugo also scored.

Vancouver is the first team since the 1993-1995 Boise Hawks to win three straight Northwest League championships and win three straight for the first time in franchise history.
