Jets coach says team has size and speed to compete in Western Conference

WINNIPEG – Winnipeg Jets coach Claude Noel says the team has the size it needs to compete in a new NHL division and new conference this season.

As training camp opened Wednesday with physicals, the Jets are preparing to compete in the West in a new Central Division with the likes of Chicago, St. Louis and Minnesota.

Winnipeg finished four points out of a playoff spot last season.

The team — which relocated from Atlanta in 2011 — hasn’t been to the post-season since 2007.

Noel says he is really pleased at the condition of his players as they report for camp and that includes defenceman Dustin Byfuglien, whose weight has always been a hot topic.
