Fire extinguished at former grow op in Kelowna

KELOWNA – Kelowna firefighters put out a blaze in a home that housed a marijuana grow operation last night.

Platoon Capt. Scott Clarke says in a media release crews were called to reports of flames were coming from the side of a house in the 400 block of McDonald Road in Rutland at approximately 8:52 p.m. yesterday, Oct. 11.

When firefighters realized there was a grow op in the house, they backed off until they confirmed it had been dismantled and the power had been cut a few days earlier.

“Crews entered and were able to extinguish the fire which was contained to the rear deck and the attic of the structure,” Clarke says in the release.

Two people living in the house are in the care of Emergency Social Services.

Clarke says the cause of the fire is under investigation.
