Two suspects facing charges after car stolen from Kamloops hospital parkade

KAMLOOPS – A man and woman have been arrested after a car was stolen from the parkade at the Royal Inland Hospital last weekend.

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says in a news release the owner of the vehicle was visiting a family member who was a patient at the hospital on Saturday, Oct. 7 when their keys were stolen.

Shelkie says the suspects stole the vehicle from the parkade.

"Hospital security was able to provide information on a suspect vehicle from the surveillance cameras in the hospital," she says.

The suspect vehicle led officers to a Kamloops residence where a 31-year-old woman was arrested. Officers found several items in connection to the victim including stolen identification and credit cards.

"Later the same day, Kamloops RCMP recovered the stolen vehicle and a 47-year-old male was arrested," Shelkie says.

During the investigation a loaded handgun was seized along with property from previous break-ins in Kamloops.

Police are recommending several charges against the pair including theft, theft of a motor vehicle and possession of a restricted firearm.

Both suspects are known to police and had recently arrived in Kamloops, Shelkie says.
