HONOLULU – The Latest on a Kauai skydiving plane crash that killed five people on Monday (all times local):
11:15 a.m.
The Federal Aviation Administration says there aren’t any records of accidents or enforcement actions against the owner of a skydiving plane that crashed, killing five people.
Fire officials and witnesses said Monday the plane went up in flames just after takeoff and then exploded as it hit the ground, killing the pilot, two instructors and two tandem jumpers.
Firefighters say the group was believed to have been part of a tour operated by SkyDive Kauai.
FAA spokesman Ian Gregor says there are no reports of previous accidents or incidents for SkyDive Kauai owner David Timko. The company is listed in state documents as a trade name for D&J Air Adventures.
The National Transportation Safety Board and FAA will investigate the cause of the crash.
