Canada will take on Japan in first round of 2014 Davis Cup

LONDON – Canada will play Japan in the first round of 2014 Davis Cup World Group.

The tie will be held from Jan. 31 to Feb. 2 in Japan.

The host city will be determined at a later date.

No. 12 Japan holds a 5-0 record against seventh-ranked Canada, though the two teams have not faced each other in Davis Cup since 1938.

Canada had a historic run at this year’s tournament, making the semifinals for the first time ever.

The Canadians were defeated 3-2 by Serbia over the weekend in Belgrade.

Japan is making its return to the World Group in 2014 after a one-year absence.
