A quick look at the mandatory retirement dates for Supreme Court justices

OTTAWA – With the upcoming retirement of Supreme Court of Canada Justice Thomas Cromwell on Sept. 1, the federal government plans to fill his position through a new appointment process announced Tuesday.

Here are the mandatory retirement dates for the remaining eight Supreme Court justices:

Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin: Sept. 7, 2018

Rosalie Silberman Abella: July 1, 2021

Michael Moldaver: Dec. 23, 2022

Andromache Karakatsanis: Oct. 3, 2030

Richard Wagner: April 2, 2032

Suzanne Cote: Sept. 21, 2033

Clement Gascon: Sept. 5, 2035

Russell Brown: Sept. 15, 2040

Note to readers: This is a corrected story. An earlier version misspelled Andromache Karakatsanis
