Edmonton Oilers sign forward Nugent-Hopkins to seven-year contract extension

EDMONTON – The Edmonton Oilers signed former first-overall pick Ryan Nugent-Hopkins to a seven-year, US$42- million contract extension.

The six-foot-one, 185-pound centre, the first pick of the 2011 NHL entry draft, was entering the final year of his entry-level deal.

Nugent-Hopkins, 20, a native or Burnaby, B.C., had four goals and 20 assists in 40 games with Edmonton last year.

Nugent-Hopkins has registered 22 goals and 54 assists in 102 career NHL games.
