KELOWNA – A rock blasting company from Castlegar has been fined more than $11,000 for causing extensive damage to homes and vehicles near a Kelowna subdivision they were working on last year.

Little Rock Drilling & Blasting Ltd. failed to control flying rock at a construction site this summer, according to a Worksafe B.C. report.

Damaged roofs, siding, glass and pavement were found up to 617-feet from the source of the blast.

Worksafe B.C. says in addition, “no written work procedures for the blasting were available" at the time of inspection.

A fine of more than $11,000 was imposed Aug. 29, 2017 for what Worksafe calls a “repeated and high-risk violation.”
