Luis Suarez makes competitive return for Liverpool after 10 games, 5 months out on biting ban

MANCHESTER, England – Luis Suarez will make his competitive return for Liverpool following a 10-match ban for biting an opponent after being named in its starting team for Wednesday’s League Cup third-round match against Manchester United.

The Uruguay striker hasn’t featured for Liverpool since April 21, when he bit Branislav Ivanovic on the Chelsea defender’s upper arm during a Premier League match at Anfield.

In the intervening five months, Suarez has played international matches for his country and turned out for Liverpool in pre-season friendlies.

Suarez remained at Liverpool for this season despite accusing the club of breaking an agreement to sell him if it failed to qualify for the Champions League. He was the subject of two bids from Arsenal in the off-season, which Liverpool rejected.
