Police say pilot released from hospital after plane crash in northern B.C.

FORT NELSON, B.C. – Police in British Columbia say a pilot suffered only minor injuries after a plane made a fiery landing on a street in the northeastern community of Fort Nelson.

RCMP Const. Lesley Smith says the incident took place in an industrial area of the community and that the pilot was the only person on board and nobody else was injured.

Dustin Roscoe works in a local equipment-rental store and says he saw the plane touch down just outside the store before coming to a grinding halt down the road.

He says the plane was already on fire when it landed and he saw the pilot pull himself from the aircraft.

Julie Leroux of the Transportation Safety Board says the plane was “amateur built,” and officials suspect engine failure and an engine fire are behind the incident.

She says the agency will not be writing a final report on the matter. (CKNW, The Canadian Press)
