ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – A Florida woman has been charged after police say her young son beat his newborn sister to death.
News outlets report 62-year-old Kathleen Marie Steele was arrested Thursday on an aggravated manslaughter of a child charge.
Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gulatieri says that on Monday, Steele went to a cellphone repair business in St. Petersburg and left her children in the car — the infant, a 3-year-old and a 6-year-old.
While Steele was inside the business, the baby began crying. Gulatieri says the 6-year-old began beating the baby to make her stop.
The baby, who was born July 26 and also named Kathleen Steele, was pronounced dead that evening. An autopsy showed the girl sustained head trauma and had multiple skull fractures.
It’s unclear if Steele has an attorney.
