Heavy rain, strong winds hit south coast of B.C. during fall storm

VANCOUVER – British Columbians living in the province’s South Coast are being told to brace for more heavy rain and wind this weekend.

Environment Canada has warned that a downpour and winds as high as 90 kilometres-an-hour will be pounding regions along the South Coast, including Vancouver Island and Metro Vancouver, on Saturday.

It says Saturday’s early season storm, which is expected to see 40 to 60 millimetres of rainfall, is only one in a series of storms that are poised to strike the southern region of B.C.

Strong winds are expected to hit the area once again early Sunday evening, and while Environment Canada says it is uncertain exactly how powerful they will be, it is possible that they will be even stronger than Saturday’s gusts.

BC Hydro says its crews are preparing for power outages.

The public has been advised to monitor future forecasts and warnings as the winds could cause potential damage.
