Mississippi police chief suspended after traffic stop
MOSS POINT, Miss. – A Mississippi police chief has been suspended without pay pending an investigation after officers in another jurisdiction pulled him over for speeding but did not cite him, even though he told them he’d had “at least three vodkas.”
The Sun Herald (http://bit.ly/2bFe4cl ) reports Moss Point’s mayor and Board of Aldermen voted to suspend Chief Art McClung during a special meeting Tuesday night.
The newspaper had reported earlier that officers in the neighbouring jurisdiction of Pascagoula clocked McClung going 109 mph in a city vehicle July 29 but no report was filed. Instead, officers drove McClung home.
McClung says he was not impaired.
Pascagoula Police Chief Kenny Johnson told the newspaper he directed officers to drive McClung home “out of an abundance of caution.” He says not everybody who gets pulled over gets charged.
