Glacier Media contracts out ad production to the Philippines, India; lays off 20
VANCOUVER – Glacier Media Inc. (TSX:GVC) is contracting out its ad production at a number of its publications in British Columbia.
Rob Munro, vice-president of the Media Union of B.C., said Thursdaythe union received noticed earlier this week about 15 jobs being eliminated at the Abbotsford Times, Surrey Now, Burnaby Now, Coquitlam Now and New Westminster Record.
The layoffs are effective as of Dec. 13.
Five non-unionized workers will also be let go from the Kamloops Daily News.
Munro said ad production for the publications will be moved to Affinity Express, a subsidiary of the Ayala Corp, a Philippines-based company with offices in Manila and Pune, India.
A spokesperson from Glacier Media could not immediately be reached.
