DELTA, B.C. – An air and water search is underway in Boundary Bay, south of Vancouver, as crews look for any sign of a man or his canoe.
The man was checking crab traps off Centennial Beach, on the Tsawwassen side of the bay, about 30 kilometres south of Vancouver, when he was reported overdue at about 7:15 Tuesday night.
Officials with the rescue co-ordination centre in Victoria say a coast guard hovercraft, supported by a search plane and helicopter from CFB Comox, as well as nearby search and rescue teams, worked into the night to try to locate the man.
Aircraft and rescue vessels returned to the area at first light, while Delta police conducted shore searches.
The name of the missing man has not been released.
