Crown says only accused had motive to kill 24-year-old B.C. woman
KELOWNA, B.C. – Crown and defence lawyers have delivered their closing arguments in the trial of a Kelowna, B.C., man accused of killing a young drug runner.
Joel Verma is charged with murdering 24-year-old Brittney Irving in April 2010.
He has said Irving was busted for a grow-op and doing cocaine before she disappeared.
The Crown focused on the large number of text messages between Verma and Irving before her body was found in the woods.
Crown lawyer Iain Currie says Verma’s cousin and a man whose truck Verma used before the woman’s body was discovered were excellent witnesses.
He says only Verma had a motive to kill Irving.
B.C. Supreme Court Judge Alison Beames will deliver her instructions to the jury on Thursday. (CKFR)
