Curtis Sagmoen remains in custody without a bail hearing

VERNON – Curtis Sagmoen appeared in Vernon Provincial Court today by video, dressed in an orange shirt and showing little expression.

Sagmoen, 37, faces several charges in relation to an Aug. 27 incident where a woman was allegedly threatened with a gun. He was scheduled for a bail hearing today, Dec. 14, however defence counsel Nick Jacob, representing Sagmoen’s lawyer Lisa Jean Helps, requested a two week adjournment.

It’s been roughly two months since the charges were laid and this is the fourth time his case has been put over without a bail hearing.

Justice of the Peace Dalene Krenz told lawyers today that at some point, there needs to be some instructions about a bail hearing.

Krenz granted an adjournment until Dec. 28. Sagmoen remains in custody.

The Silver Creek resident lived at 2290 Salmon River Rd., a property owned by his parents. The rural farm was the focus of an intensive three-week search and the site where Vernon teen Traci Genereaux’s remains were found. No charges have been laid in Genereaux’s suspicious death and police have not drawn any links between her and Sagmoen. 

Sagmoen’s charges include disguising face with intent to commit an offence, intentionally discharging a firearm while reckless, uttering threats, careless use or storage of a firearm, possessing weapon for a dangerous purpose. He’s also charged with possession of methamphetamine dated Sept. 5. No additional charges have been laid against him.
