Woman killed searching for cellphone in Scottsdale roadway

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – A Canadian woman who was hit by a car while searching for a cellphone in a Scottsdale street has died.

Scottsdale police say 24-year-old Jesena Andony died at a hospital Sunday as a result of her injuries.

According to investigators, she was part of a group riding in a golf cart near downtown around 1:45 a.m. Saturday when a woman in the vehicle lost her cellphone.

The golf cart driver pulled over and Andony went into the roadway to look for the phone.

Police say that’s when a pickup truck struck her.

The driver remained on the scene.

Authorities do not believe speed or impairment were a factor. They do not expect to file charges against the driver.

Police did not know Andony’s city of residence.
