TORONTO – Oscar-winning Winnipeg native Anna Paquin will star in a new CBC-TV mystery drama called “Bellevue” next year.
The public broadcaster says the New Zealand-raised star, who won an Oscar for “The Piano” and starred on “True Blood,” will play a detective named Annie who investigates the disappearance of a transgender teen.
The case creates a rift between her and her family and others in the small blue-collar town.
Irish actor Allen Leech of “Downton Abbey” fame will play Annie’s ex in the series.
Wabush, Nfld., native Shawn Doyle of “House of Cards” will play the police chief.
Jane Maggs created the show and Adrienne Mitchell serves as producer/director.
“Bellevue” will premiere on CBC in winter 2017.
Filming is set to begin on Sept. 19 in and around Montreal.
