Car crashes into Vancouver restaurant injuring four police officers

VANCOUVER – Four Vancouver police officers had an unexpected, and unwelcome, dinner guest Sunday evening.

They were enjoying a meal at a city restaurant (on Denman Street) when a BMW came crashing through the front of the building and into their table.

Police spokesman Constable Brian Montague says the four male officers suffered varying injuries — from broken bones to complaints of chest pains — but nothing life-threatening.

He says the 30 year old woman driving the car was quite shaken up, and was taken to hospital as a precaution, but she did not appear to be physically injured.

Montague says it is still early in the investigation, however, alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

He says officers with the Collision Investigation Unit will look into whether the driver might have been distracted by using a cellphone, or had medical condition.
