Stocks are mostly higher, sending the Dow back to a record high; Ralph Lauren rises

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Stocks are mostly higher in midday trading on Wall Street, sending the Dow Jones industrial average back into record territory.

The Dow Jones industrial average was up 80 points, or 0.5 per cent, to 15,699 points as of noon (1700 GMT) Wednesday. That’s above the Dow’s latest closing high reached on Oct. 29.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 index was up five points, or 0.3 per cent, to 1,768. The Nasdaq composite was off seven points, or 0.2 per cent, to 3,932.

Several companies rose after reporting higher earnings.

Ralph Lauren rose $6.47, or 4 per cent, to $177.53 after its income beat analysts’ expectations. Humana, a health insurer, was up $2, or 2 per cent, at $95.88.

The yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note fell to 2.64 per cent from 2.67 per cent.
