Former Roche v-p in Quebec gets 18-month prison term for fraud
JOLIETTE, Que. – A former vice-president with the Roche engineering firm has been given an 18-month prison term for her role in a fraud scheme involving Quebec municipal contracts and political financing.
France Michaud was convicted last year on charges of fraud, conspiracy and breach of trust.
The prison term handed down Wednesday was accompanied by three years probation and various conditions.
Upon her release, she will have to find work but will not be able to manage other people’s assets without informing her employer of her conviction.
The sentence came less than two months after Robert Poirier, a former mayor of Montreal-area Boisbriand, received the same length of incarceration for his part in the scheme.
Poirier was mayor between 1998 and 2005.
In December, the city of Boisbriand began procedures to recoup some of the stolen money.
