Woman remains in critical, but stable, condition following Vernon shooting

VERNON – A woman remains in hospital in critical condition following a weekend shooting in Vernon.

The 49-year-old woman was found Saturday morning, Jan. 6, suffering from life-threatening injuries, according to police.

RCMP spokesperson Const. Kelly Brett said as of Monday morning, the woman remained in hospital in stable, but critical condition.

Police were initially called shortly after 1 a.m. for a report that a woman was shot at an apartment in the 3700 block of 24 Avenue. Brett said the woman was inside the apartment and the attack is not believed to have been random.

When asked Monday if the incident was drug related, or if police could comment further on the circumstances of the shooting, Const. Brett said police are not releasing that information at this time.

“The investigation remains ongoing,” she said.

On Monday, there was little activity at the apartment building believed to be the location of the shooting. The scene was not under police guard, and there were no officers present. One man at an apartment building immediately adjacent to the one in question declined to speak with iNFOnews.ca.

A window in the basement unit of the apartment appeared to have been shattered by bullet holes. It is not known if the damage is related to the recent shooting.

Police would not say if they have any suspects.
