AUSTIN, Texas – Police in Austin, Texas, say a man suspected of opening fire in a crowded downtown entertainment district and killing one woman was likely aiming at someone else.
Authorities said Monday the 24-year-old suspect remained at large, more than a day after the early Sunday shooting along Austin’s famed Sixth Street of music clubs. A judge has signed a murder arrest warrant with a $2 million bond.
A witness told police the suspected shooter had been shoved by another man when he pulled out a handgun tucked into his waistband. Investigators found four bullet casings near a 20-year-old woman who was fatally shot in the head.
Three other women were hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Police have described a “chaotic” scene during the shooting.
