VICTORIA – A goal by Colton Dach 1:04 into overtime on Tuesday lifted the visiting Kelowna Rockets to a 2-1 victory over the hard-luck Victoria Royals in Western Hockey League action.
Turner McMillen gave the Rockets (3-2-1-0) a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal at 8:11 of the second period. Victoria’s Justin Kipkie tied the game about eight minutes later.
The Royals, who started a five-game homestand against the Rockets, picked up a point in the loss and improved to 0-7-1-0 after eight games.
Victoria outshot the visitors 26-19.
WINTERHAWKS 5 OIL KINGS 2
The red-hot Portland Winterhawks outshot the visiting Edmonton Oil Kings 43-18and got goals from five different players en route to their sixth victory in as many games.
Aidan Litke, Josh Zakreski, Marcus Nguyen, Luca Cagnoni and Luke Schelter scored for the home team at Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Diego Buttazzoni chipped in with two assists.
Carson Golder and Marshall Finnie scored for the Oil Kings (1-5-1-0).
THUNDERBIRDS 5 TIGERS 2
Reid Schaefer had two goals and an assist, and Gracyn Sawchyn had a goal and assist as the unbeaten Seattle Thunderbirds defeated the visiting Medicine Hat Tigers 4-2.
Kyle Crnkovic and Gabe Ludwig added the other goals for the Thunderbirds, who have won all five of their games this season.
Hunter St. Martin and Reid Andresen scored for the Tigers (2-3-1-0), who were outshot 31-27.
