Teenage girl injured after collision in downtown Kamloops

KAMLOOPS – An 18-year-old girl is recovering from minor injuries after a collision in downtown Kamloops last night.

Kamloops RCMP Sgt. Brandon Buliziuk says in a news release that police, ambulance and firefighters responded to a crash involving a pedestrian at 6th Avenue and Victoria Street. The intersection was closed and several emergency vehicles were present.

The 18-year-old was hit by a turning vehicle while crossing Victoria Street in the designated crosswalk. She suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital, Buliziuk says.

The driver remained on scene and cooperated with police.

"Based on investigative findings, the driver is not being charged with any offence," Buliziuk says.

The intersection is now re-opened. Drivers and pedestrians are being reminded to be vigilant when on the roads, especially when it's dark outside.

Buliziuk says pedestrians should use cross-walks while being attentive, and be prepared to react if a driver doesn't see them. Drivers should look twice to ensure there are no pedestrians on the road. Be mindful of blind-spots.
