RCMP warn of public safety risk after Shuswap manslaughter suspect released

A 66-year-old woman was found dead at a Sicamous mobile home park and the man RCMP arrested in connection with her death has been released from custody.

Officers were called by paramedics who were responding to a report of an unresponsive woman in a driveway at unit in a mobile home park at 1707 Hillier Road in Sicamous at around 4:48 a.m., June 19, according to an RCMP media release.

Police arrived to find the paramedics working on the woman, who RCMP identify as Jo Ann Jackson of Sicamous. She was declared deceased at the scene.

A man was located in the area and arrested for manslaughter and was taken to the Salmon Arm RCMP detachment. He was released from police custody with conditions including not to return to the mobile home park.

RCMP do not identify the suspect.

While RCMP said the Jackson’s death is believed to be an isolated incident, they say there could be a “potential public safety risk.”

“Police will also be implementing additional measures within our authority in an effort to mitigate public safety concerns,” the release read.

Investigators are appealing to the public that if they have video, dash camera or other, between 1 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. on June 19, from within the area of Hillier Road to the Trans Canada Highway in Sicamous to contact the Southeast District Major Crime Unit Tip Line at 1-877-987-8477.
