One dead after crash of ultralight aircraft

ABBOTSFORD, B.C. – One person is dead following the crash of an ultralight plane Monday afternoon in Abbotsford, B.C.

Crews found the aircraft after an extensive five-hour search.

Police say the pilot was the only person aboard the two-seat aircraft and was found dead at the scene by ground crews.

The pilot’s name has not been released.

A search and rescue operation was launched after the Joint-Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Victoria picked up an emergency signal at around 4:30 p.m.

An air search using a Cormorant helicopter was also launched.

The ultralight, which had taken off from Abbotsford on a flight to Maple Ridge, was found near the Abbotsford airport. (News1130)
