B.C. SPCA finds contractor to build new animal care centre in Kamloops
KAMLOOPS – The B.C. SPCA has hired a contractor to build the Kamloops and District Animal Centre.
Local Kamloops company A&T Project Developments Inc. has been chosen to construct the building, according to a B.C. SPCA media release.
Work on the new centre is slated to begin in the spring.
“We are delighted to take this next step and look forward to serving animals and pet guardians in the region and expanding our humane education and youth programs through this exciting new facility,” said Craig Daniell, Chief Executive Officer for the B.C. SPCA in the release.
The 10,500 square foot centre will include a community animal centre and a clinic for spay and neuter surgeries. The new facility will also have multiple indoor and outdoor dog kennels, a multipurpose room for workshops and will host summer camps and other animal-related events.
The total cost of the project is $6.5 million and the B.C. SPCA still needs to raise approximately $740,000 in donations.
“In 2015 the society purchased two acres of undeveloped land at 2815 Tranquille Rd. across from the airport, which has since been rezoned for a community animal centre,” said Daniell. “We hope to have our new centre open to the public by early summer 2019.”
