ISLAMABAD – Hundreds of Pakistanis have rallied in the capital, Islamabad, against the imminent visit of India’s interior minister, Rajnath Singh.

Some 2,000 chanted slogans against India, claiming the predominantly Muslim region of Kashmir, now divided between the two countries, belongs to Pakistan.

Singh is due in Islamabad later on Wednesday to attend a meeting of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation.

The rally was organized by the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, which consists of social, religious and political groups. Syed Salahuddin, the leader of Hizbul Mujahideen, the largest militant group fighting Indian rule in the disputed region, was also seen at the rally.

On Tuesday, a similar rally against Singh’s visit to Islamabad was held in New Delhi, with Hindu ultra-nationalists demanding that India cut off all ties with Pakistan.
