2 occupants of van killed as car being chased by troopers strikes it

FREEMONT, Ohio – Two people have been killed after the van they were riding in was struck by a car travelling more than 200 kilometres an hour in northwest Ohio.

WTOL-TV reports that troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol were chasing the speeding car when the accident happened around 7:15 p.m. Thursday near Fremont.

Officials say the vehicle was travelling between 200 and 240 km/h and hit at least three other vehicles over the course of 27 kilometres.

The 24-year-old man allegedly driving the speeding vehicle has been taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The turnpike’s westbound lanes are expected to be closed until early Friday.
